We are launching a miniature Death Star into space to celebrate Star Wars: Episode IX

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Hello World,

Even tho we still have 10 days left in the campaign I have decided to purchase the last flight hardware  with my own capital. I have faith that the Star Wars fan base will push this campaign past the finish line. The full open source hardware BOM can be found at: www.deathstarinspace.com/engineering

Like mentioned in Update #2 my only worry is the three 350 F supercapacitors. If you haven't already, be sure to share this Kickstarer (http://kck.st/2KzReZY) OR your digital badge (http://tinyurl.com/DSiS-Digital-Badges) via your social media channels or forward this email. Tell your friends and family in person, text message, Skype, email, carrier pigeon, etc - whatever gets the job done! Maybe even consider increasing your pledge...

Update 15: NASA Requirements? [TECH]
about 5 years ago – Wed, Apr 24, 2019 at 12:28:29 PM

Hello World,

WE HAVE NO NASA REQUIREMENTS :) This is a 100% commercial project. United Frontiers is launching near Florida but they don't need NASA launch pads, since they launch directly from the ocean.

That being said I did use the NASA design process and the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook. Requirements are critical for safety, keeping the project on schedule, and reducing technical program risk. You can find the DSiS Mission Design Review (MDR) at the following link:  https://tinyurl.com/DSiSmdr

Here are some additional documents I used to create the DSiS MDR:

  1. NASA Parts Selection List (NPSL) guidelines and requirements
  2. EEE-INST-002: Instructions for EEE Parts Selection, Screening, Qualification, and Derating

Tech updates will be released every 3 days. The next topic... Flight Hardware Purchases. You can ask technical questions in the comments below, on the April 11 Reddit AMA, or on Twitter using the hashtag #AskDSiS

You can watch the April 21 Technical Q&A Facebook Live stream at: www.facebook.com/DeathStarInSpace/videos/280365866179045/

Update 14: 67% funded!! Can we reach the stretch goals?
about 5 years ago – Tue, Apr 23, 2019 at 10:29:49 AM

Hello World,

$18,420 sends us on a suborbital flight to 110 km, but if we meet our stretch goals we can do even more! I set the Kickstarter goal at this minimum viable product (MVP) level so that we could get a working LASER into space, ensuring that the project had a place to start growing from.

Adding a more powerful Robots Everywhere 8 Watt LASER and a XIMEA 4K HD camera with an exterior view are two stretch goals that we have already done the engineering for, we just need more funding. 3D printing the Death Star in Aluminum on i.materialize.com would be the cherry on top! The current 3D printed material is heat resistant and flame retardant ULTEM 9085, but Aluminum would scare the rebels for sure.

Aerospace missions always have backups. I have ALREADY PAID United Frontiers for a flight to 110 km; however, like in "The Empire Strikes Back" building and putting a second Death Star into space using Space Ops Australia or Rocket Labs is the best way to defeat the rebels and be 200% sure we can send everyones name to space and back!

So tell your friends and family in person, text message, Skype, email, carrier pigeon, etc - whatever gets the job done! Maybe even consider increasing your pledge to get us over the finish line!

Update 13: Why Ahsoka Tona Is the Best Star Wars Character!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 22, 2019 at 06:29:13 AM

Ahsoka walks away from the Jedi Order because similar to the Sith the Jedi Order is NOT correct either
Ahsoka walks away from the Jedi Order because similar to the Sith the Jedi Order is NOT correct either

Hello World,

Two words! Grey Jedi

The Jedi Order in the prequel movies (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) doesn't let its members have feelings. The "wise" Yoda basically tells Anakain to suck it up, be tough, and forget about your wife and mom when he said,  "Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose"

Luke Skywalker beats Sheev Palpatine and frees Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi, because of his love for his father Anakain Skywalker.  It's emotion and brief periods of anger during that final AMAZING lightsaber battle that enables the "good guys" to win over the "bad guys".

This is why Kylo Ren and Rey ??? are so interesting in the newest Star Wars movies. They both seem to want to bring balance to the force that is somewhere in the middle. Super excited to find out Dec 20th!!!

The authors at https://www.starwars.com/news/5-of-the-most-important-anakin-and-ahsoka-moments and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDo1Km4bMys put it best!

"The Season Five finale of The Clone Wars saw Ahsoka leave the Jedi Order. She was no longer sure if it was the right path for her. Watching her say goodbye to Anakin and the Temple in “The Wrong Jedi” punched many fans in the heart — particularly the part of her farewell that showed how much she and Anakin had in common. He told her he understood and related to her desire to walk away. It was a difficult conversation but one that undoubtedly shaped both characters."

As you can tell I'm a Star Wars geek. Please share this Kickstarter with your Star Wars friends and family in person, text message, Skype, email, carrier pigeon, etc - whatever gets the job done! Maybe even consider increasing your pledge to get us over the finish line!
